Phil Gardner, Managing Partner
Phil Gardner is a co-founder and Managing Partner at The Institute. In this position, he oversees the Institute Partner Program business. Mr. Gardner entered the business world after seven years with the U.S. Navy as a Strike Fighter Pilot & Ordnance Requirements Officer. After receiving a Masters in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School, he joined Goldman, Sachs & Co. in Mergers & Acquisitions and later became an associate with McKinsey & Company in Boston, MA. In 1996, Phil left McKinsey to become one of the founders of Provant, Inc. - a publicly-traded training company serving the Fortune 1000 and Federal Government. He left Provant in 2000 to launch the Institute for Applied Network Security. Mr. Gardner is a graduate of Harvard Business School and Harvard College; in addition, he graduated at the top of his class in US Navy Flight School.
Jack Phillips, Managing Partner
Jack Phillips is a co-founder and Managing Partner at The Institute. In this position, he oversees the Institute Forum and Accelerator Services businesses. Mr. Phillips began his career in media and information publishing as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley & Co. in New York, and at the Long-Term Credit Bank of Japan in Tokyo. After senior operating positions at McGraw-Hill beginning in 1994, Mr. Phillips joined the founding team of Internet Securities in 1995 (subsequently purchased by Euromoney in 1998), and later joined CCBN.com in 1999. Mr. Phillips left CCBN.com in mid-2000 to launch the Institute for Applied Network Security. Mr. Phillips is a graduate of Harvard Business School and Williams College.
Allan Carey, Senior Vice President of Research and Product Development
Allan Carey is the Senior Vice President of Research and Product Development at The Institute. In this position, he manages the Institute Partner Program, including all research and Working Groups, and provides support for The Institute’s Forums. Prior to the Institute, Mr. Carey spent seven years at IDC, a global provider of market intelligence and advisory services for the IT sector. He developed and managed the Security Services practice and provided in-depth analysis, intelligence and consulting on key aspects of the information security and business continuity services markets. In addition, Allan has served as a business analyst in the IPTelecom group at GTE Internetworking, and as a consultant and project manager within the biotech industry. He has spoken at industry conferences in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America and his comments have appeared in the Boston Globe, BusinessWeek, Fortune, InfoWorld, Network World, The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and others. Allan holds an MBA in Finance from Bentley College, and a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst.
Tricia Gorman, Vice President of Operations
Tricia Gorman is the Vice President of Operations at The Institute. She is responsible for The Institute’s accounting, fulfillment, human resources, and IT activities. Ms. Gorman started her career at Deloitte, Haskins & Sells where she worked as a CPA for several years. Prior to joining The Institute, she managed her own small business accounting practice. She is a graduate of Stonehill College and holds a Certificate in Accounting from Bentley College.
Mark Hartley, Vice President of Advisory Services
Mark Hartley is a Vice President of Advisory Services at The Institute. He is responsible for managing the Institute’s Technical Advisory Council (TAC) as well as delivering premium service. Prior to The Institute, Mr. Hartley was a senior principal at Catalyst where he was involved in partnership and alliance development, team building, management, business development, and executive search activities for emerging technology and large public enterprises. Before Catalyst, he was the VP of Strategic Alliances & Partnerships at Silicon Valley IT Services. In addition, Mr. Hartley was Founder and CEO of his own consulting firm, Hartley Ventures, focused on early-stage private companies, and the Managing Director of The Alliance Group, an executive search and investment company.
