Exposing SharePoint Vulnerabilities

Friday, August 16, 2013 | IANS

How secure is your SharePoint installation? Two new tools about to be released by IANS Faculty Kevin Johnson and his team at Secure Ideas aim to help you answer that question.

Johnson says SharePoint has not only grown increasingly common at enterprises around the world, but it has also grown in scope, expanding from a simple content management system to a powerful tool that handles workflows, CMS and a variety of internal and external communications tasks. But while it has grown quickly, few organizations have a good handle on its many pieces and their inherent risks and vulnerabilities.

To help address this, Kevin Johnson and James Jardine of Secure Ideas will be officially launching two sets of tools and a whitepaper at next month’s DerbyCon. At the event, they will walk attendees through the systems available under the SharePoint name, as well as demonstrate ways penetration testers can assess and exploit them.  They will also release the tools and guidelines to help organizations better assess their SharePoint systems.

Johnson’s talk is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27. For more information, visit the DerbyCon site.
